BGA Levels 

  • Level One = Beginner
  • Level Two = Late Beginner
  • Level Three = Intermediate 

You are an intermediate guitarist if you can:

  • Confidently pick
  • Know and be able to change smoothly between your fundamental open chords (major, minor & 7ths)
  • Know power chords and be able to move them around cleanly
  • Know the basic bar chord shapes
  • Basic strumming patterns - whole, half, quarter, eighth, sixteenth rhythms & equivalent rests syncopated rhythms & triplets
  • Be able to play along in time to a metronome
  • Play through several complete songs
  • Play the major, natural minor, major pentatonic, minor pentatonic & blues scales
  • Basic lead technique: sliding, hammer-ons & pull-offs & bends
  • Know your notes in the first three frets across all six strings
  • Improvise a solo
